Although we are slowly saying goodbye to our beautiful summer weather, Capetonians have no reason to stop having fun.

Mother City Cape Town and her surrounding regions have long been famous for producing some of the best wines in the world. Celebrating these magnificent flavours has become a winter wonderland of festive occasions.

Here are just a few festivals wine-lovers can look forward to in the coming months:
The South African Cheese Festival (26th to 29th of April)

Sandringham, just outside Cape Town, will be hosting this all-time favourite among wine-lovers. Don’t let the name deceive you, although this festival is focused on cheese, no turophile can deny the importance of the perfect wine pairing.

Local wine makers will be presenting the years finest flavours for you to taste and enjoy. R130 gets you in, and tasting is mostly free. Explore new combinations of cheese, wine and other fresh produce, and spend the day enjoying the festive atmosphere.

Good Food and Wine Show (29th of May to 1st of June)
This glorious event doesn’t even require leaving town. The show will be taking place in the Cape Town International Convention Centre right next door to the V&A Waterfront.

Throughout its history, the Good Food and Wine Show has proudly displayed South Africa’s most innovative developments in the culinary industry. Indulge in premiere wine while you learn all about the cutting edge of fine dining.

Wacky Wine Weekend (5th to 8th of June)

Turn your love for wine into a destination weekend. Robertson winemakers go all out once a year to show off their lovely selection of local produce.

This year the festival will be celebrating its tenth birthday with extra special offers and promotions to celebrate the region’s exceptional wines. Accommodation in the area fills up fast, so make sure you book well in advance for a weekend of beautiful scenery and great wine tasting.

Getting ready for a winter of wine

Even the most cultivated wine lover can benefit from a few home tastings to prepare the palette before winter comes. Luckily we still have some time to get in the swing of things.

The Cape’s lovely selection of top-range wines are readily available at cellars around Stellenbosch and Constantia, as well as wine boutiques across the city.

Alternatively save yourself the drive. Shop for anything from Pinotage to Sauvignon Blanc online, or join a wine-of-the-month club who will send a new selection of delicious tastes to your doorstep as you get ready for the upcoming wine-tastic winter.
