We had a fun night out last Saturday at the “Boxing on the Bay” event in Camps Bay.
This was the second boxing event at the Rotunda in the Bay Hotel and it was even better than the first one.
Yes, there were some African moments in regards of planning and flow of the event, but that also added to the charme of the event.
Most importantly we saw very good boxing fights with technical skilled athletes.
Highlights of the evening was the World Boxing Federation (WBF) international light weight title fight between South African title holder Vusumzi Tyatyeka and Hungarian challenger Gyrgy Mizsei. (Vusumzi Tyatyeka won)
And Joseph Martey of Ghana took on South Africa’s Mzuvukile Magwaza for the WBF Africa title in the junior flyweight division (Joseph Martey lost).
The other five fights were good as well, as all boxers showed dedication and were well trained. The event was sponsored by Sturrock Shipping and presented by Pound for Pound Gym.
Most entertaining and worth to check out was the opening with Cape Town boxing promoter Commando Kalekuzi. He is Pound For Pound’s owner and head coach and quite entertaining in his own way. Don King, the US boxing promoter might learn a thing or two here 😉 Check out the video.
A very good show act were these kids showing their show right before the main fight. Check out this video as well.
So overall we had a good night and are looking for the next “Boxing on the Bay” event.
