We have another Cape Town Blogger interview for you.
This time it is Abby Buchanan with her Blog One Stiletto At A Time. Learn what she does.
Hi, my blog is onestilettoatatime.blogspot.com
Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I am fashion and beauty blogger and I am currently a Bcom Retail Management student through Unisa.
How you first got into blogging?
I started a blog a couple of years ago but never put much effort into it, then last year July I thought about restarting my blog from
scratch and got very involved in all the aspects that come with being a blogger.
What do you find most challenging about blogging about your topic?
The constant upkeep and continually providing entertaining posts can be hard some days. Also breaking into the right circles and for PR’s to take note of you is quite a challenge.
How would someone describe your blogging style?
My blogging style is a combination of elements. I do product reviews, trend reports, personal style posts as well as inspirational quotes and posts on random things that inspire me.
What networking do you do that you feel helps your blogging business?
Blogging and networking go hand in hand, one has to put in the effort and be able to put themselves out there. For my blog I have Twitter
(@Onestiletto), Facebook (One Stiletto At A Time), Tumblr and Pinterest.
What do you do when you aren’t working on your blog?
I am currently in my third year at university so studying takes up most of my time, I also work part-time as a product advisor at a health shop.
What is your strategy with your blog in general?
After I have completed my degree I plan to go into either fashion or beauty buying and by creating this blog it has enabled me to network with people I hope to intern for soon. My blog has allowed me to better understand the fashion and beauty industry which has been great.
What has been your strategy for creating visibility for yourself and your blog?
Recognition for bloggers in South Africa is not yet on a par with international levels, this makes for a very interesting and up-and-coming blogging industry albeit this forms a challenging task to create the necessary visibility and traffic to compete with international fashion and beauty blogs. My strategy is to work hard on content, keep up with current trends and try to create as much recognition for my blog as possible.
If someone was interested in blogging what would be a few things you
The first step to starting a blog is to pick a topic, style and vision for your blog. Then look for similar blogs that are successful, look at their format, see how often they post and take a look at their archives to see how their posts where in the beginning. To be a blogger one constantly needs to learn and improve. Don’t worry about comment and traffic in the beginning take time to build up a steady following.
