Cape Town Summer 2011 – Western Cape targets domestic tourists
The Western Cape is gearing up for a spectacular holiday season with the roll-out of Cape Town Routes Unlimited’s (CTRU) Your Best Summer Ever campaign.
The official destination marketing organisation for Cape Town and the Western Cape has partnered with hundreds of restaurants, hotels, tourist attractions, tour operators as well as health and wellness establishments to provide travellers with the biggest collection of discount vouchers, all in one place.

“Because of the economic downturn, people are looking for holiday bargains. CTRU has canvassed the industry to come up with some great deals and we are ready to welcome visitors from South Africa and abroad to enjoy their Best Summer Ever. Recently, our destination achieved a host of new accolades including making it onto The New York Times’ list of the world’s top 10 hip cities and securing a place for Table Mountain as a New7Wonders of Nature. We are confident that there will be an upswing in visitor numbers.” says Alan Winde, Western Cape Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism.

The Your Best Summer Ever website (www.tourismcapetown.co.za/summer) has been specifically designed with those visitors from outside of the Western Cape in mind. All of the special offers are highlighted on a Google Map on the homepage. Users will not only see where in Cape Town and the Western Cape they can get a special offer, they are also able – with the help of Google Street View – to see the actual establishment or attraction offering the discount.
By taking Cape Town and the Western Cape into the online space through the Your Best Summer Ever campaign, CTRU has strengthened its position as the leading destination marketing organisation in Africa.
In addition to providing access to great discounts, CTRU also offers a prize valued at R30 000 to the winner of the Best Summer Ever photo competition. The prize includes a return flight to Cape Town, two nights’ accommodation and free tickets to major attractions. Another exciting element of this campaign is the use of endorsements by local celebrities to promote the destination. Zizo Beda, popular presenter of the Selimathunzi on SABC 1, recently experienced the best of the Cape Winelands and shared this experience with the rest of the country on her show.
