Reforest Fest in Platbos forest

The Reforest Fest in Platbos forest

The Reforest Fest in Platbos forest

For the third year running, Greenpop will be hosting a The Reforest Fest in Platbos forest!

This exciting festival has seen over 3000 indigenous trees being planted in the southern-most forest of Africa. Platbos, a relic forest with trees of over 1000 years of age, forms part of one of the rare and endangered ecosystems of the Western Cape.

The annual Reforest Fest is an attempt to protect and grow the ancient forest through a massive reforestation festival, where we plant trees, hear great music, eat delicious food, and share a weekend of great energy and spirit in Platbos Forest. And this year, the Greenpop Platbos Reforest Fest is happening twice!

They are having a FAMILY fest (weekend of 10th, 11th and 12th May) and a FRIENDS fest (weekend of 17th, 18th & 19th May).

Everyone is welcome at both, but the focus will be slightly different. Both will have tree planting on Saturday and activities on Sunday morning. Continue Reading …

Don’t get caught unprepared – Cape Town Accommodation 101

As we grow up, we find ourselves having friends in many different corners of the world – and even if we love Cape Town (and can’t imagine living anywhere else) some of our friends might not feel the same way and we can’t hold that against them (well, not for too long anyway).

So, with your friends being scattered far and wide, where will all these people stay when they decide to celebrate special occasions in Cape Town? And…who do you think they will ask for recommendations?

Cape Town is a very popular place for weddings, special celebrations, such as honeymoons, engagement parties (because that’s where your really cool friends are) or even 21st Birthday parties – As a Capetonian, I have been asked many a time, “Where is the best place to stay in Cape Town?” so, in order to help my fellow Capetonians answer this seemingly easy question, here are a few suggestions, which cover some of the top options out there.Continue Reading …

The Old Biscuit Mill, Cape Town

Old Biscuit Mill Cape Town

Old Biscuit Mill Cape Town

I’m originally a Durban Gal, and when I moved to Cape Town there was one very definite agenda on my mind: Go visit the Old Biscuit Mill!

I really had no idea what it was all about, only that everyone spoke about it and the food was to die for. Let’s face it, anything with good food perks my ears up and gets them wriggling.

So, only one week into Cape Town, I found myself heading down to this red brick building in the industrial part of Woodstock. When we arrived I had only allowed myself a small bowl of plain oats, so determined was I to save all my energy into devouring all the delicacies on offer. I hadn’t even had coffee yet, THAT is how far my dedication reached.

I was not disappointed. First, a quick dash to the cappuccino stand for my daily caffeine fix. I was not really going to be able to function without it, especially in this new and exciting environment. I needed to stay focused. Continue Reading …

I have asked Cape Town Active for the privilege of being allowed to guest blog so I can “plug” a FREE download I recently found and used – I assure you that I am not getting any reward for doing this – I‘m sure the Software/web site folks I’m writing about don’t even know I exist but I am so pleased that I felt compelled to share this unsolicited “review” on as many platforms as possible.

First, a very brief background on the situation.

To make a long story short, I wanted to put together a video message for my mom (aww how sweet).

The problem was the video clips were taken with an i-Phone (love, love, love my i-Phone) and I wanted to embed them into an MS Powerpoint slide show, sounds more boring than it is, I swear it’s a fun slide show and my mom will love it!  Continue Reading …

Body Worlds and Red Bull Flugtag in Cape Town

A day at the V&A Waterfront Cape Town

A day at the V&A Waterfront Cape Town

In an effort to take full advantage of all the offerings in Cape Town last weekend, I decided to spend a day at the V&A Waterfront – first stop was Body Worlds followed by Red Bull Flugtag.  An interesting combination that worked surprisingly well!

First stop was Body Worlds.  I’d heard about this exhibition for years and was curious to see it for myself.  Whether you have any knowledge of anatomy and physiology or not, the Body Worlds exhibit makes science accessible and interesting to all audiences.

It was amazing to see how complex and delicate the human body is – and it made me appreciate the fact that I have a body that works properly – most of the time ?  Continue Reading …
