As the follow up to a highly successful South African Bantamweight Title bout staged in May, Kalakoda Boxing Promotions & the Southern Sun Cape Sun Hotel host the Cape Town HEAVYWEIGHT EXPLOSION on the 22 November 2013 kicking off at 18:00 with limited tickets available through Webtickets.
The bill is stacked with 3 explosive heavyweight bouts and a quality undercard which will provide a great spectacle for starved boxing fans of the mother city. The event will take a black tie, box and dine format with a combination of corporate tables and general admission seating in the ballroom of the iconic Cape Sun hotel.
The event will feature two World Boxing Federation Africa titles with the main event being a rematch between former South African Heavyweight Champion Osbourne “Big Daddy” Machimana and Zimbabwean Elvis Moyo for the WBF African Heavyweight title.
The main supporting bout features another Zimbabwean Felix Venganayi who takes on Simphiwe Tom for the vacant WBF African Junior Lightweight title. Steve Kalakoda known for his stable of heavyweights in the late 90’s and early 2000’s with fighters like Jan Nortje, Donovan Luff, Duane van der Merwe, Franklyn Egobi and Mike Bernardo has put together a bill that features some of the most promising heavyweights in the country .
The notable fight on the undercard is between arguably the two most exciting heavyweights on the South African boxing scene in over a decade, Kevin “KO KID” Lerena and Big Ben Marcel. These guys are the future of Heavyweight boxing in this country. Both are come forward fighters that throw punches with mean intentions, It’s doubtful this fight will go the full distance.
