The Black Forest is often referred to as a gravel paradise and there is definitely something to it. It is ideal for both relaxed and extended gravel bike tours over many kilometres and offers a variety of routes at different levels of difficulty. You should therefore take a few days for a gravel tour in one of Germany's most famous forests. The attractive low mountain range between the Hochrhein in the south and the Kraichgau in the north is around 160 kilometres long and 60 kilometres wide. It offers many good opportunities for gravel cycling. The best tours can be found throughout the national park from Bad Wildbach to Gengenbach and Freudenstadt, but also further south around Freiburg im Breisgau and in the Upper Black Forest.
Tip: It's also not far from the Black Forest to Strasbourg and Alsace. So you can also extend your gravel bike tours to neighbouring France.
Pure gravel bliss for gravel fans
The Black Forest offers gravel bliss for gravel fans of all kinds. From an easy gravel tour to a crisp gravel bike tour to challenging bikepacking, everything is possible here in the mountainous part of Baden-Württemberg. You can expect breathtaking nature with unique views of dense forests, blooming meadows, crystal-clear lakes and plenty of Black Forest magic.
There are plenty of exciting trails in the Black Forest. They are steep or gently sloping, located in valleys or at altitudes of up to over 1,400 metres. You will find everything you need for exciting and varied gravel bike tours. So what's stopping you from planning your next holiday, which should definitely include gravel biking. This much is already promised: No two days will be the same.
Relaxed routes on a gravel bike in the Black Forest
Do you want to take it easy at first? Then you will find numerous easy tours in the Black Forest that are also suitable for beginners. How about a tour through Baiersbronn, for example? There are also beautiful and relaxed tours in the Murg Valley - for example with numerous changes of direction and a good refreshment stop at the Seidtenhof.
Medium and difficult gravel tours
There are also numerous medium and difficult routes in the Black Forest. A gravel bike tour through the Dreisamtal valley is particularly recommended: with a constant alternation of flat passages and hilly sections, the route leads over a varied mix of roads, forest tracks and beautiful trails to fantastic viewpoints.
The tour in the Achertal is much more challenging: The tour demands quite a bit of stamina on steep and steady ups and downs - but you are rewarded with beautiful views and some highlights. However, the ascent to the Schliffkopf in particular should not be underestimated; the downhill section is also over unsafe gravel at times. So only for experts!
