Hiking in the Dolomites means enjoying impressive 360-degree panoramas, walking through enchanting green valleys and conquering fascinating rock bastions. In doing so, hikers are likely to immediately agree with the architect and painter Le Corbusier, who described the Dolomites as the "most beautiful natural architecture in the world". Alta Badia in the south of the Val Badia is the perfect starting point for hikes of all kinds. On more than 400 km of well-marked paths and climbs, everyone can find the right route, from day walks to high-altitude paths with great views to challenging summit hikes.

Alta Badia is located in the middle of the Dolomites mountain world and you will find a large selection of great summit hikes here. For example, on the Piz Boè at 3152 m. The exciting and panoramic hike leads across the Sella plateau to the highest peak of the same name. On the long hike you will pass cold mountain lakes, steep gorges and several huts. There are also many alternative routes to the Puez peak, for example the one via the Edelweiß valley from Colfosco or the one over the Gherdenacia plateau from La Villa.
The route to Sassongher mountain is also beautiful. The summit offers magnificent views over the valley and the surrounding mountains. The ascent to the Conturines mountain leads to the highest three-thousand-metre peak of the Fanes group (3064 m) and is correspondingly demanding.
Panoramic high-altitude trails
Hiking enthusiasts who appreciate the romantic flair of mountain huts and the appeal of multi-day hikes will experience unforgettable hours and breathtaking panoramas on the famous Dolomite high-altitude trails. Of the eight classic high-altitude paths, high-altitude paths no. 1 and no. 2 lead through the Alta Badia region. In addition, two more panoramic trails have been created in recent years: the Alpine Guides' High Trail and the Alta Badia High Trail.
Lärchenweg and snow cave
If you want to learn something on the way, the geological nature trail or the Lärchenweg (Larch Trail) are the best places to go. Along the Larch Trail we learn interesting facts about the flora, fauna and geology of the region. The trail is also popular in winter. The Larch Trail is well suited for families with children.
In summer, versatile guided tours of all levels of difficulty take place in Alta Badia as part of the "hiking together" program. These can be chosen from themes such as culture, nature and adventure and are aimed at the whole family. For example, you can go to the snow cave at the foot of the Heiligkreuzkofel, a natural cave created by melting snow and glaciers.
Explore the landscape on snowshoes
In winter, the landscape of the region is covered in white snow. Then, for example, extended snowshoe hikes are ideal. The route from San Cassiano to Badia via Heilig Kreuz offers wonderful views of the Marmolada, Grup dl Sela, Puez and Peitlerkofel. If you are lucky, you will also spot wild animals such as chamois and deer. On the "Snowshoe hike through the Störes meadows to Piz Sorega" you can enjoy the view from the Pralongiá plateau with a 360 degree panorama over some of the most impressive peaks of the Dolomites.
