A cycling holiday in Denmark not only offers spectacular views and sporting challenges. Here you will also find peace and relaxation far away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The routes take you through unspoiled nature, where you are accompanied by birdsong along the way and can breathe in the scent of fresh sea air - that's The Danish Zen.
Where else can you get lost and still reach your destination?
North Jutland's Baltic Sea coast
There is hardly a better way to discover North Jutland than cycling through the unique and extremely varied nature. Cycle along the coast, inland, over hills and through wooded landscapes and historic harbor towns such as Skagen. A highlight: Denmark's northernmost point, Grenen, where the North Sea meets the Baltic Sea. The small city of Aalborg, the silted-up church, the shifting sand dune Råbjerg Mile and the seaweed houses on Læsø are also some of the highlights worth mentioning.
The Aarhus region and its surrounding coastland
The Aarhus region with its adjacent coastland is the perfect destination for any cycling holiday. Whether you're up for longer, challenging routes, or short trips at a more leisurely pace, this region offers something for everyone. In fact, it is really best explored and savored by bike.
Aarhus itself is Denmark's second-largest city and alongside the sandy beaches of the coastal areas, not to mention the Mols Bjerge National Park, there's no shortage of things for the cyclist to discover.
Lolland-Falster
600 km of coastline, beautiful sandy beaches, sea views. The neighboring islands of Lolland and Falster can boast these attributes and plenty more besides. You can decide for yourself what you want to experience, whether it be the local nature, culture, gastronomy, or outdoor activities. All the best sights and experiences are easily accessible by bike with one highlight in particular being the Maribo Lakes Nature Park. It offers spectacular views and is rich in bird life. Another destination for young and old include the Fuglsang Art Museum, the prehistoric tombs in Halskov Vænge, or Northern Europe's largest safari park in Knuthenborg. The region is characterized by beautiful flat landscapes, unique nature parks, and peaceful woodlands. As for cycling, whether it's a leisurely family bike ride with a picnic basket or an ambitious long-distance route that you're looking for, you're sure to find it on the Baltic Sea islands of Lolland-Falster!
In terms of cycling infrastructure, the area is extremely bike-friendly with marked bike routes, convenient signage, and information boards. You can choose between shorter adventure routes with local sights and nature experiences, or longer rides that offer more of a challenge. An example is the 820 km long Danish Baltic Sea Cycle Route (N8) or the international long-distance cycle route between Copenhagen and Berlin (N9). Both long-distance routes include sections through the beautiful landscape of Lolland-Falster.
Fyn
An authentically Danish and colorful biking experience is assured on the Baltic Sea island of Fyn and its southern archipelago. More than 1,300 km of marked and well-maintained cycle paths have helped to make this region the number one cycling destination in Northern Europe. Whether taking your own bike or renting one, the diversity of Fyn's nature and culture is considerable, from coastline, forests, hills formed by the Ice Age, and last but not least, dreamy villages, charming harbor towns, fairy tale castles, and manor houses from different eras. Experience this "Garden of Denmark" with its colorful vegetation, sea, and landscapes from behind the handlebars of your bicycle.
The cycling paradise of southern Zealand & Møn
Southern Zealand and Møn are perfect for a fantastic cycling experience. A place where you can cycle from cliff to cliff while marveling at the unique landscape from the saddle of your bike, feel the wind on your cheeks, and breathe in the wonderful scent of nature. You can even tackle the famous Copenhagen-Berlin route! This route of approximately 300 km takes you through some of the most beautiful landscapes in Denmark before crossing the border.
In South Zealand and Møn there are rarely more than 20 kilometers between the sights, so there are plenty of opportunities to stop for an explore. For example, you can visit the Stevns Klint Experience, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, or look around the colorful grounds at Gavnø Castle.
