Road cycling routes in Haute Maurienne Vanoise

No need to go to the other side of the world to offer you the most beautiful trips! 700 kilometers, 18 mythical passes and 14 stages, the Route des Grandes Alpes is undoubtedly the most majestic mountain cycling route.

This 6th stage takes you to conquer a giant! You will climb Col de l'Iseran (2764m), the highest road pass of the Alps, before descending to the picturesque village of Bonneval-sur-Arc at the beginning of the Maurienne valley.

This long itinerary has several uses: as a route to Italy for passing cyclists, either by taking the train from Modane or cycling over the Col du Mont-Cenis; as a way of getting to the foot of the Col de l’Iseran; or simply to explore the Haute Maurienne!

Kilometre posts line the road to the Col du Mont Cenis, which culminates at almost 2000 m, beside the eponymous lake. The road continues to the Col du Petit Mont Cenis, where there is a nice, friendly mountain hut.

After traversing the Haute Maurienne and going up some steep switchbacks lined with kilometre markers, you emerge at the Col du Mont Cenis beside its eponymous lake at almost 2000 m.

This itinerary takes you through little villages of Haute Maurienne Vanoise to the highest road pass in Europe: the Iseran, which rises to an altitude of 2770 m of elevation!

After a first part slightly downhill in the heart of the Maurienne valley and its perched forts, you climb Col du Télégraphe (1566m), to reach the village of Valloire.
