Departing from the nine locks at Fonseranes, this itinerary will take you on a tour of the treasures of Béziers, along the Canal du Midi and the River Orb.

Turn-by-turn directions
Depart from the 9 locks car park.
From the car park, take the wooden ramp to the Canal du Midi towpath. Continue as far as the tourist information office and walk down alongside the 9 locks at Fonseranes.
Continue straight ahead along the canal walk and onto the Port Notre-Dame quay. Walk 700 m and cross the Avenue du Port Notre-Dame (pedestrian crossing) then continue along the quay. Then cross Avenue de Sérignan (pedestrian crossing) and continue along the quay as far as the River Orb.
Turn left and go under the first bridge, with a view of the Cathédrale Saint-Nazaire on the right. After passing under the second bridge, walk 50 m and then turn left. Climb the stairs, turn left into the park and leave it. Take the left-hand pavement and cross the river Orb. At the end of the road, there are two streets on the left.
Continue along Rue de l'Orb and at the top, use the pedestrian crossing to turn right into Rue Canterelles, walk 130 m and then turn left into Passage Canterelles. Follow the narrow path to a small square, then turn left into Rue Auguste Fabregat. Follow this winding street to the Place de la Révolution.
Continue straight ahead along the Cathedral of Saint-Nazaire, and don't miss the climb up to the bell tower (information inside the cathedral). At the back of the cathedral, access the Jardin des Évêques, then continue along the Promenade Jacques Hamel (orientation table). With your back to the orientation table, take Rue Boulard and at the end, Place des Bons Amis, turn left into Rue Viennet. At Place des Trois Six, turn left, walk past the tourist information office and cross the avenue.
From Place Gabriel Péri, on the right of the town hall, take Rue du 4 Septembre. At the end, turn right down Allées Paul Riquet for 500 m.
Cross Avenue Maréchal Joffre and enter the Plateau des Poètes public garden. Follow the main path down to the Monument aux Morts. After passing through the gates, walk carefully along the left-hand pavement of Boulevard de Verdun, using the pedestrian crossings around the roundabout, then cross the tunnel on the left-hand pavement under the railway tracks. At the second roundabout, go straight on (pedestrian crossing) Rue des Péniches.
At the end, take the Canal du Midi towpath and turn right along the canal boat house. Walk 400 m along the Quai Port Neuf and at the end, use the uphill path to rejoin the towpath and follow the Canal du Midi.
Cross the Canal Bridge over the Orb and walk for 1 km. Pass under the footbridge and over a lock.
Go up to the left alongside the 9 locks at Fonseranes, walk along the Canal du Midi and then take the wooden ramp to the right to reach the car park.
