Saalbau
The Saalbau - Neustadt's sitting room: Built at the time of the foundation of the German Reich from 1871 to 1873 according to plans by Jacob Liebleins, the Saalbau burned down in 1980 and was rebuilt from 1982 to 1984. Today, the master of metamorphosis is a congress and conference centre, theatre and concert hall, ballroom and place where the Palatine and German Wine Queen is crowned. In sight: the main station built in 1866.
The people of Neustadt call it their "good parlor" as the Saalbau is the most important cultural center for theater, concerts, operas, cabaret, trade fairs - for guests and locals. Every year, the office of culture provides a varied cultural program and it is as well the traditional coronation site of the German and Palatinate wine queens. But also event agencies and cultural organizers like to book the unique atmosphere of the Saalbau, which presents itself as a true "quick-change artist". The classicistic entrance area and the elegant foyer already create a special atmosphere at the entrance. Warm wood tones give a feeling of coziness, and the unusually designed ceiling construction makes the acoustics perfect. A very special eye-catcher: the large stage curtain designed by Victor Vasarely (OP-Art). The main train station is within sight of the Saalbau, so visitors can arrive comfortably by train.
