The Valier reserve in the Couserans region, at the foot of the peak bearing the same name, is one of the oldest state-owned reserves in the Pyrenees and the largest in the Ariège region, with 9037 hectares of protected wilderness.
The Mont Valier reserve is home to the Bearded Vulture, the immense bird of prey with the bright orange head. You may also spot a moiré-coloured capercaillie or a golden eagle nestling in the cliffs. Come and discover the Pyrenean lily, the wild iris, the purple foxglove and the rhododendrons that cover the heights in intense pink in June.
