The visitor mine
In the Berchtesgaden salt mine, salt is still mined today, as it always has been, in so-called sinking pits. Visitors to the salt mine learn about the exact process of salt mining when they enter the mine. A total of 1,400 metres of track is travelled by the visitors' railway and takes the mine visitors into the interior of the salt mine. Those who want to ride along will of course be dressed in the typical overalls. In addition to the miner's slide, the ride over the underground salt lake is also a highlight of the underground tour.
The Magic Salt Room in the Berchtesgaden Salt MineIn the Magic Salt Room, guests can expect a fascinating audiovisual production surrounded by spherical, crystalline sounds. The presentation shows the miners' everyday working life, the traditional Berchtesgaden miners' guild and the underground fire brigade. Differences between then and now are shown through pictorial animations.
To make the underground experience accessible to guests from all over the world, the text of the audio guides has also been revised. Guests can now follow the tour in 17 different languages - while the tour guide reproduces the content in German. The audio guides are included in the admission price and are handed out on the mine train at the beginning of the guided tour.
