Seen from a distance, the Falkenstein is a huge block with vertical walls cut off on all sides. It's a wonder that the Schusterweg is only a 4-way.

There are many easy routes in the Bielatal, which can also be secured well by Elbe sandstone beginners. Nevertheless, every lead climb is like a short journey into the unknown and a challenge to place the knot loops in the climbing position with one hand. Intersections, walls, cracks and edges make climbing on the grippy and solid sandstone very varied.

The old path up the large Lorenzstein leads through an impressive chimney system with a maximum difficulty level of 2, climbing, straddling and walking up to the high plateau. From the top, you have a great view of the entire surrounding area, as the vantage point was already used in the Middle Ages to recognise approaching enemies. The notches in the rock on which steps were placed also date back to this time. So as long as you can step up the old supports, you're in the right chimney ;-)

The Wartburg in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains offers some nice, not difficult climbs (south rib, north crack), which can also be relatively well secured and is therefore suitable for familiarising yourself with the Elbe sandstone. The most important climbing rules to protect the sensitive sandstone:
- Do not use friends and wedges
- No magnesium, no toprope
- Do not climb on wet rock.
