In the heart of Nouméa, go back in time and explore the history of New Caledonia from 1853 to 1975.
This 19th century colonial building was the first bank in New Caledonia, the Marchand Bank in 1874. It was bought by the City in 1880 and became the City Hall until 1975. Today it houses the Nouméa City Museum since 1996. Organized on three levels, go back in time to the Nouméa of the 1900s, then to the First World War. Alongside the major historical dates, you will find the daily life of the Caledonian men and women in Nouméa and in the countryside. Dedicated to the history of New Caledonia from 1853 to 1953, it retraces the creation of the capital, the installation of the penal colony and many other periods that have marked the territory.

Don't forget to visit the museum's store which offers books on the period from 1853 to the present day.

Every day throughout the year
Opening hours on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday between 9 am and 12 pm and between 1 pm and 5 pm.
Closed on Sunday.
Closed exceptionally on January 1st, Easter Monday, Feast of the Ascension, Whit Monday, May 1st, May 8th, July 14th, August 15th, November 1st, November 11th and December 25th.
