Tartagine Forest - Melaja

In the past, it was an essential resource for the Ghjunsani due to the diversity of its wood species, its richness in hunting and gathering and its impressive spaces for the shepherds, an ideal place for the summer transhumance

For its diversity of larici pines, Corsican and holly yews, junipers and tree heather, the Tartaghjine Melaghja (Tartagine Melaja) forest has obtained the protection of a natural area of faunistic and floristic ecological interest, thus protecting these fragile species. The holm oak and juniper forests are now protected by the Natura 2000 zone as habitats for wild species such as the spotted salamander. On your walks you will discover ash trees, birch trees and numerous plant species such as the Tartagine holly and the purple foxglove. This haven of peace is where many species have found shelter. Open your eyes and look for the bearded vulture, the golden eagle, the discreet mouflon, the goshawk, the Corsican nuthatch and the Corsican deer.

The Tartagine forest invites you to contemplate with its many wild and remarkable hiking trails of the Corsican Regional Natural Park.
