Stage 3
eVélo MNCA stage 3: St-Etienne-de-Tinée - Isola 2000
A stage in a very Alpine setting where you can play hide-and-seek with the main road. An itinerary that also plunges you into an intertwined border history.

- Take the narrow road alongside the Tinée and follow the signposts until you reach the M2205C road, where you turn left. At this point, take a look at La Clapière! Europe's largest geological collapse!
- Proceed cautiously for 350 m along this busy road, before turning right onto the cycle path that leads to the hamlet of Le Bourguet (1054 m).
- Continue on the M2205 as far as Cialancier, where the cycle path rejoins.
- Feel like exploring? 5 km along the M61 is Roya (1500 m), with its restaurant in a wonderful setting!
- You then alternate between road and cycle path until you reach the village of Isola (870 m). Time for a well-earned break...
- The long climb to Isola 2000 (17km at an average gradient of 6.5%) begins. The route alternates between the current wide road and the old one, which has become a pastoral track. Watch out for the markings and be vigilant, as mountain bikers can also descend these routes, and there are calus! aloura leva ti daù mitan! (there are crazy people, don't stay in the middle)
- A short stop at Chastellar (1658 m), to take a breather and discover a place steeped in Franco-Italian history!
- You've reached your goal! The Isola 2000 resort is just around the corner!
Author’s recommendation
- Follow the corresponding mountain bike route markings: The route is marked with red "VTT FFC" arrows accompanied by an "e-vélo Métropole Nice Côte d'Azur" logo.
- Following bad weather in October 2020, work is underway to rebuild a footbridge. The technical description of the route at points 3 and 4 has been adapted accordingly.
