Mango Groove will be kicking off 2015 in a spectacular fashion on the 31st of December this year at the Kirstenbosch New Year`s Eve Concert. The concert will start at 20h30, with Mango Groove seeing in the New Year from 22h45. Also featured on the show will be the SA rock legend Arno Carstens.
In the words of Claire Johnston, Mango Groove’s iconic lead singer:
‘’I cannot tell you how excited we are about the show! We have had a long and very special relationship with Kirstenbosch through the years, but this will be our first New Year’s Eve concert at the venue. Performing on the Kirstenbosch stage is always an annual highlight for us anyway, so to be seeing in 2015 with the people of Cape Town will be extra special for us’’.
Mango Groove’s concerts are always a big celebration, and in fact it has often been said that if you really want to understand the phenomenon that is Mango Groove, you simply have to see them live. In the words of founder member John Leyden:
‘’Yes, the live show is very important to Mango Groove: very spontaneous, very celebratory, and very much a huge party both on stage and in the audience. We have been so lucky through the years to have had so much support from so many South Africans, and now it’s doubly rewarding to just how many different generations of South Africans are coming to the concerts…nothing like that to keep the party going!’’
2014 has been a busy year for Mango Groove, with a host of SA and international shows, but with 2015 looming the band is particularly excited about what will two very significant career highlights for the group:
· Finally, and after over two years in the making, Claire’s solo album will be released in February. In John’s words ‘’’truth be told, the album gained a life of its own, and developed such a momentum with so many different artists involved, that we decided to hold over the release to next year. We have now completed the project and are ecstatic with the results!’’
The album is basically a celebration of great South African songs through the decades, and includes collaborations with Zolani Mahola from Freshlyground, Theuns Jordaan, Juanita du Plessis, Romanz, Vusi Mahlasela, Rebecca Malope, Mango Groove (also the producers of the album) and Kurt Darren. The song also features a brand new Mango Groove track.
· On March the 7th, Mango Groove will once again be hitting the stage at the magnificent Hammersmith Apollo in London. It has been 20 years since the group last played at The Hammersmith Apollo, so it promises to be an historic concert.
Add to the above a busy SA and international touring schedule for the band, and it promises to be a very exciting year for Mango Groove indeed.
