Here a Cape Town event that we from Cape Town Active really support – the Pick n Pay Woman’s Walk 2013.

Pick n Pay Women’s Walk raises funds for cancer prevention and early detection.

The Pick n Pay Women’s Walk will take place in Cape Town at the Durbanville Racecourse.

The 5km walk takes place on 16 March, so make sure you book your place to enjoy a morning out with family and friends to raise funds for the PinkDrive.

The Pick n Pay Women’s Walk – which has been held at venues around the country with thousands of walkers taking part – serves to raise funds to support free cancer screening and health advice in local communities.

Bronwen Rohland Director of Marketing and Sustainability said: “The PinkDrive Mammography Truck is an important part of our Corporate Social Responsibility programme; it enables women in remote and disadvantaged areas to receive mammograms, an important weapon in breast cancer detection.” The PinkDrive Educational Truck will also be present on the day to provide free cancer screening and health related information.

It costs R35 for adults and R20 for children younger than 18 to join the walk. You can enter at Pick n Pay Canal Walk, Pick n Pay Durbanville, Pick n Pay Brackenfell Hyper and Pick n Pay Cape Gate. You can also enter online at www.picknpay.co.za. Walkers can collect their event packs, filled with goodies on 14 and 15 March at Pick n Pay Canal Walk between 10am and 6pm.  The walk starts at 9.00am at Durbanville Racecourse

“The Women’s Walk is a chance to raise money for vital health services to women and men who are affected by breast cancer, and forms an important part of our social responsibility drive. It will also add to the merriment of the festival this year, which will be bigger and better than ever before, said Rohland.

The walks mark Pick n Pay’s continued hands-on involvement in all aspects of the community, and fits in with its belief that doing good is good business.

All participants will receive a medal and a Pick n Pay goodie bag at the finish.
