Nederburg is set to seduce lovers and tantalise taste buds this Valentine’s Day (14 February) with fabulous wine, sexy food and acoustic musical entertainment, all carefully devised to turn the romance to the highest setting.
The winery’s manor house restaurant, The Red Table, has a host of offerings available, from a three-course dinner with musical entertainment, to picnics and tapas.
Chef Edmore Ruzoza’s sensuous dinner spread on the evening of Valentine’s Day, offered at R370 per person (excluding service charge), starts with a glass of Nederburg’s refreshingly crisp bubbly, Première Cuvée Brut, to whet your appetite.
The starter course is a choice of tian of lemon-thyme poached prawn, smoked snoek, vin blanc calamari and avocado; or falafel with marinated bocconcini, confit tomato and asparagus salad.
For the main course, select between fresh line fish, steamed broccoli, exotic mushrooms, lime capers beurre blanc and plum tomatoes; slow-braised lamb shoulder, red onion, sweet potato lyonnaise, fine beans and red wine jus; or roasted cauliflower, basil pesto, feta and aubergine roulade served with zucchini fries.
Dessert comes in the form of chocolate fondant with orange ice cream and mixed berry compote, or Noble Late Harvest crème brûlée served with fresh berries and apricot biscotti.
A large selection of Nederburg’s award-winning wines, offered at an extra cost, will be available to guests to enjoy with their meal. Guests are encouraged to ask their waitron for suitable wine and food pairings to make this dining occasion truly memorable.
The popular Zest musical trio featuring Lisa Brits on the harp, Louisa Theart on the flute and Ariella Caira on the cello, will set an enchanting atmosphere with a curated selection of both classical and modern melodies. They will also be taking requests from guests.
Valentine’s Day dinner at The Red Table will be served from 18:00 until late. The restaurant will offer its a la carte menu for lunch from 12:00 to 16:00 on 14 February.

For those who prefer an al fresco Valentine’s experience, from Tuesday, 13 February to Friday, 16 February, The Red Table is also planning special picnic baskets of tasty delights served under the shady trees. This option, available for lunch between 12:00 and 16:00, includes a delicious selection of savoury and sweet treats, as well as mineral water, and costs R550 per couple. Wine to enjoy with the picnic can be purchased at an additional cost from the restaurant or the Visitor’s Centre located a short walk away from the manor house. Picnic baskets need to be pre-ordered and paid for 24 hours ahead.
Alternatively, visit The Red Table between 16:00 and 20:00 on Friday, 16 February for a scrumptious selection of Spanish-style tapas to enjoy with Nederburg’s wines while watching the sun set over the vineyards. This is on offer every Friday up until the end of March.
Whilst at Nederburg, visit the modern Visitors’ Centre to experience its popular dessert wine pairing with sweet delights, or try the ice cream pairing introduced exclusively for summer. These pairings cost R60 per person.
Also on offer are guided tours of Nederburg’s state-of-the art cellar and other points of interest, such as the manor house, a national monument, and Old Cellar Museum that tells the Nederburg story in wonderful artefacts and pictures. Tours cost R60 a head, but is waivered when a tasting or pairing at the Visitors’ Centre is purchased. Foreign language guides could be arranged by prior appointment. All cellar tours need to be pre-booked by contacting Nederburg.
