We were invited last Saturday to the media launch for the upcoming Rock musical “Rockville 2069” at the Kelvin Grove Club in Newland.
And we were very positively surprised by the performance of the singers and the band. Just to remind you it is not a full blown stage musical yet. The album will only be launched to the public in September.
But it has the potential to rock the stages of the Broadway’s and Westend’s of this world in the future. (Let’s bet on it).
And it is “Made in South Africa”!
The story is quite complex and was told in a sort of comic style presentation. Voices and songs are great and I think can expect something big coming to the world of musical pretty soon.
So if you like musicals, Rock & Trance / Techno music, gadgets and a entertaining story than “Rockville 2069” might be for you.

An explosive mix of rock music meets the future with a delicious techno edge.
Rockville 2069 is a futuristic rock musical that is at heart a love story set against the backdrop of a post-apocalyptic world and steeped in the philosophies that characterise the rebellion of the sixties, the seventies and those that are currently shaping our world.
The story tells us of an Earth that has been destroyed by man’s neglect and climate change, however one small archipelago of islands, known as Rockville, survives and is now home to a group of peace-loving rockers, sound technicians and musicians, celebrating 100 years of the Woodstock festival of 1969. The world comes to an end during the opening act of the music celebration and as survivors in the only breathable land left on earth; create a protective force field that shelters them from the frozen wasteland and toxic fog that is earth. In order to regenerate this vital shield with resonating sound waves, their musicians play each day at dusk and dawn.
But their harmony and calm does not last long as a group of ragged outsiders wish to take control of their utopia and so a tale of betrayal, treachery and greed unfolds only to be saved at the very end in an epic “Battle of the Bands”, fueled by loyalty and love.
Rockville 2069 is a relevant and contemporary rock musical set to create a new shift in this genre. It is the creative brainchild of composer Johnny Ray. The script and lyrics were written by Johnny Ray and Bruno Paiola. Rockville 2069 is a fully orchestrated production that sees over 60 artists and musicians from different cultural and musical backgrounds, collaborate to bring a new, sometimes discordant, always thrilling voice to the rock musical scene. The result is an emotionally soaring journey of caution, hope, optimism, rebellion and joy. It’s a lyrical rollercoaster ride you’ll want to take again and again.
