The Crazy Store Table Mountain Challenge

The Crazy Store Table Mountain ChallengeRunners take on challenging trail run over Table Mountain for a greater cause

In support of Allan Marshall, a loving father and grandfather who was diagnosed with Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) earlier this year, three teams and one lone ranger will be competing in The Crazy Store Table Mountain Challenge. The 10 runners will take part in this run in order to raise funds to contribute towards Allan’s medical expenses that are expected to be in excess of R100 000. GMB is the most common and most aggressive malignant primary brain tumour in humans, with a median survival time of only 15 months.

Runners will have to cover 37km in this challenging trail run over Table Mountain on Saturday, 14 September 2013. Fortunately, the stunning views from the trail will serve as motivation to the runners. An additional and more powerful motivating factor for those competing to raise funds for Allan will be the impact that this cause is sure to have on him and his loved ones. Allan is the grandfather of two beautiful young granddaughters who live with him, their grandmother and their dad in Yzerfontein, having lost their mother tragically last year.
With the aim of raising additional funds to contribute towards Allan’s treatment expenses, a team of cyclists are also set to conquer an 80km ride around the peninsula in support of the trail runners. Allan’s son, Roy Marshall, who currently lives in the United Kingdom will be holding a 24 hour tennis marathon on the same day, 14 September, to also help raise funds.

Raffle prizes will be up for grabs at R20 per ticket. Prizes include a beautiful tanzanite pendant, one domestic airline ticket (excluding taxes), a two night self-catering stay including breakfast at Buffelsfontein Game and Nature Reserve, two vouchers for a two night weekend for two people at any Holiday Inn Express Hotel in South Africa and restaurant vouchers for Harveys at Winchester Mansions, Surf Side and Osumo.

Other fantastic raffle prizes include six bottles of wine, three bottles of champagne, three cases of beer, an autographed Western Province shirt, a signed Stormers rugby ball, a sports accessory pack and Sportsman’s Warehouse voucher, an hour sports massage, an Esse facial and a handmade photo frame.

Furthermore, after the fun-filled day, an auction will be held where more amazing goods will be on offer. A generous donation by at a retail value of R7 000 to R8 000 will be auctioned – the highest bidder will take home his/her body weight in wine at a maximum of 120kg. The wine, Cape Promise, is a lovely medium bodied red blend with a relaxed fruit compote aroma. In addition, a one night stay at 15-on-Orange including a breakfast voucher will also be available as an additional raffle prize at R50 per ticket. The winner for this raffle will be announced during the prize giving ceremony.

All the support and contributions raised will be sincerely appreciated by Allan and his family and friends. To date, just over R50 000 has been raised towards the goal of R100 000.
